In 2005, Malta spent € 7 million on Official Development Assistance (ODA), which corresponds to 0.18% of its gross national income (GNI). The vast majority of funding was channelled through multilateral means, with just 1.9% of it bilateral.


Geographic priorities:


Thematic priorities:

  • poverty reduction;
  • information and communications technology, particularly e-governance;
  • education;
  • health, water management (desalinisation);
  • maritime law;
  • research on ageing; and
  • capacity-building initiatives.


Funding programmes:

So far, the Maltese government has not provided financial support to non-government organisations (NGOs).
