In 2005, Ireland spent US$ 692 million on Official Development Assistance (ODA), which corresponds to 0.41% of its gross national income (GNI). Bilateral means represented 70% of the total, while 30% was multilateral.

Funding programmes:
NGOs can apply for financial support under the following funding programmes:
Civil Society Fund: This instrument co-finances NGOs. The type of support is divided into ‘project applications’ and ‘Multi-annual Block Grant Programmes’.
Micro-Projects Scheme: This instrument supports small projects in developing countries proposed by Irish NGOs.
