How to use the Guide?

The Guide is divided into four sections. The first section Strategies for Resource Mobilisation offers a number of useful suggestions and tips for increasing the success of funding proposals and applications. It has been based both on DSW’s previous experience and out of the feedback we’ve collected by Ministries of Foreign Affairs or their implementing Agencies.

The second section, Donor Profiles, provides a general overview of each European donor states’ development cooperation, including a discussion of the donor’s organisational structure, main policy documents, priority themes and sectors, as well as some of the key Official Development Assistance (ODA) figures. In addition, the introduction has two sub-sections informing you about the country’s support for SRHR and HIV/AIDS activities and its co-operation with NGOs.

Finally, the third and fourth sections—Funding Programmes Open to All Applicants and Funding Programmes Open to National Applicants—offers comparable and easy-to-use information on the funding programmes for population assistance issues operated by each donor. The funding programme profiles are structured according to the following categories:

Grant-making criteria Which criteria may lead to approval or rejection of an application?
Guidelines Which guidelines should be followed when applying?
Project duration What is the average timescale of a project?
Deadlines Do deadlines exist for submitting proposals and funding applications to the funding institution?
Application forms What application procedures have to be followed and which forms have to be completed?
Application and Procedures What are the different steps in applying for funding?
Languages In which languages can the proposal be submitted?
Tips (if applicable) How can the quality of a proposal be improved and who can support potential candidates in their application process?
