Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation (SAMRS)
Slovenská agentúra pre medzinárodnú rozvojovú spoluprácu (SAMRS)
Background
The Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation (SAMRS) controls the implementation of bilateral official assistance. Based on the ‘Medium-term Strategy’ and the National Programme for a specific fiscal year the Agency announces grant possibilities and evaluates project proposals.
Each year the SAMRS publishes a series of calls for proposals online, destined for projects in several of Slovakia’s priority and partner countries.
Grant Size
Budget limits depend upon the specific call for proposals. Considering previous examples, in 2009 SAMRS launched nine calls for proposals with budget limits ranging between €33,000 and €200,000.
Own Contribution
Normally it is not required to provide own contributions. However, for investment projects the applicant has to contribute at least 20% of the total investment expenditure of the project.
Funding Priorities
Development projects must generally fit within the priority sectors that are defined in the ‘Mid-Term Strategy’ for Official Development Assistance of the Slovak Republic for the Years 2009 – 2013:
- Reducing poverty and hunger in developing countries
- Promoting sustainable economic, social and environmental development in developing countries
- Ensuring global peace and security, in particular by enhancing democracy, the rule of law, human rights and good governance in developing countries
- Promoting universal access to education in developing countries
- Improving the quality of healthcare services in developing countries
- Promoting economic cooperation with developing countries
- Raising Slovak public awareness of the needs of developing countries and development assistance provided by Slovakia
