In People – Children’s participation: To support children to effectively
network, participate and be directly represented in decision-making
impacting upon their lives. - In developing countries, until:
18.11.2009, budget: 11,000,000 €.
Strengthening of Districts and
Local Level Governments: To strengthen the functioning of lower levels of
government and lay a good foundation for the implementation of the focal
sector programmes of the 10th EDF. - In Papua New Guinea, until:
25.11.2009, budget: 100,000 €.

EU News: European Commission plans mapping of Civil
Society Organisations in Asia

DG EuropeAid of the European
Commission is currently preparing for a mapping study of Civil Society
Organisations (CSOs) in Asia. The study aims at strengthening the EC’s
capacity to better involve CSOs in the development processes of Asian
countries. The planned starting date for the mapping is November 2009,
with Nepal as a pilot country. countries development processes. The
European Commission will organize consultations in Nepal, addressing among
others issues such as capacity building needs of CSOs on the ground. For

EU News: Committee on Budgets of the European
Parliament votes on EU Budget 2010

Individual members, political groups
and the specialized committees of the European Parliament (EP) have
together tabled 1167 amendments to the EU Budget 2010. In its latest
marathon session, it was the Committee on Budgets’ (BUDG) task to vote on
these budgetary amendments. As one of the contributions from the Committee
on Development (DEVE), and as a result of DSW’s advocacy work in the
European Parliament, MEP Thijs Berman’s amendment asked for €10 Million
more in allocations for health under the EC Development Cooperation
Instrument (DCI). During their committee session, BUDG members listed an
increase of €8 Million. As a next step of the budgetary procedure, both
the original amendment from DEVE (€10 Million) and the one from BUDG (€8
Million) will be put for a vote during the upcoming plenary session of the
European Parliament, on 19-22 September. More information can be found

Upcoming Events: European Development
Days
22-24 October
The European Development Days (EDD),
an annual event hosted jointly by the European Commission and the EU
Presidency, will this year be held in Stockholm, Sweden. The EDD serve as
a platform for exchange and debate for the more than 4,000 expected
participants from the development community. One of this year’s side
events, organized jointly by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Malaria and
Tuberculosis and other organizations, addresses the question: “Can the
Health Development Goals still be met in times of crisis?” Registration
