European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights: To strengthen the role of civil society in promoting human rights.
- In Ukraine, until: 09.11.2009, budget: 200,000 €.
- In the Solomon Islands, until 20.10.2009, budget: 100,000 €.
- In Panama, until 15.10.2009, budget: 100,000 €.
- In Belarus, until 12.10.2009, budget: 100,000 €.

Upcoming Events: European Parliament returns from summer break

31 August

After its summer recess, the European Parliament will continue its work again next week. Members of European Parliament (MEP) will come together in Brussels in their respective committee formations during the week of August 31st to September 4th. The Committee on Development (DEVE) will discuss the 2010 budget of the European Union on September 3rd and will decide on previously presented amendments – among them the amendments proposed by DSW to increase the budget for Sexual and Reproductive Health by €10 million. Upcoming Events: EC Information Day on “Africa Call”

18 September

Under the EU-Africa Strategic Partnership, a new call for proposals will fund research activities “Better Health for Africa” with a total budget of €39 million. On September 18th, the EC organizes an Information Day in Brussels with representatives from the European Commission and the African Union. Special sessions on health as well as brokerage sessions for the participants are foreseen. Registration is open until September 14th. More information is available here:

The German Foundation for World Population (DSW) is recruiting an International Affairs Manager, focused on DSW’s multi-country, international advocacy, especially in Africa and Asia. The position will be based in east Africa, probably Nairobi, though there is some flexibility about this.
