EU News: €39 million for “Better Health for Africa”
under the EU-African Union Scientific Partnership
30 July
The European Commission launched a
specific call for proposals dedicated to research for Africa, addressing
commitments made under the 2007 joint EU-Africa Strategy. Supported
research activities will support African projects and partners in 2010,
with the aim of strengthening Africa's research base. Of the total budget
of €63 million, the major share of €39 million is earmarked for
health-related projects. A specific focus under the heading "Better Health
for Africa" will be on improving maternal and newborn health. On September
18, EU Commissioner Potočnik and a representative from the African Union
will hold an Information Day on the so-called "Africa call" in Brussels.
