EU News: European Commission publishes “April
Package” on the impact of the financial crisis on development
8 April
One week after the G20 summit, DG
Development of the European Commission published its 2009 spring
communication “Supporting Developing Countries in Coping with the Crisis”.
Together with four supporting working documents, one of them focusing on
the effects of the crisis on the MDGs, this so-called “April Package”
analyses the situation in developing countries and prospects for progress
in light of the crisis. As an immediate response to the effects of the
crisis, it proposes an increase rather than a decrease of ODA, particular
attention to the most vulnerable developing countries and more effective
aid. All documents of the “April Package” can be retrieved here: http://ec.europa.eu/development/index_en.cfm
