EU News: DSW awarded European Commission grant for Euromapping project

23 December

DSW has signed a contract with the European Commission to implement its Euromapping project in partnership with the European Parliamentary Forum in 8 EU countries. The Euromapping project raises awareness about donor commitments and funding for Official Development Assistance (ODA), global health and sexual and reproductive health and helps empower advocates working to increase those funds. EU News: European Court of Auditors' Special Report 10/2008 on "EC Development Assistance to Health Services in Sub-Saharan Africa"

The Court of Auditors has released a critical analysis of the European Commission’s effectiveness in the development of health systems and the health sector in Sub-Saharan Africa. Specifically, the report provides insight into the problems associated with resource allocations, General Budget Support, the EC’s relationship with the Global Fund as well as the EC’s use of the European Development Fund. DSW has prepared a concise summary of the 80 page Report, highlighting the Court’s conclusions, main findings and recommendations. EU News: Jakarta Commitment on increased aid effectiveness in Indonesia

22 January

The EC, along with 21 other donor nations and multilateral agencies, have signed the Jakarta Commitment, a new development partnership document between the Government of Indonesia and its development partners. Founded upon the principles of the Paris Declaration and the Accra Action Agenda, the document aims to deliver aid according to government priorities and with government ownership. EU News: DSW releases handbook; “What about Reproductive Health? Improving the Success of Development"

26 January

Designed to help EC delegations easily integrate reproductive health into their existing portfolios including general budget support and sector development programmes, the guidebook “What about Reproductive Health?” also aims to assist with financing proposals and agreements, calls for proposals, tenders and other documents. It is an easy to use reference and offers recommendations within existing policy and programme frameworks. An informal meeting of EU Development ministers will be held in Prague to discuss issues of democratic governance, sustainable energy and the consequences of the financial crisis on developing nations.
