Non-State
Actors (NSA) and Local Authorities (LA) in Development: To build capacity
of NSA and LA in order to strengthen their participation in poverty
reduction and sustainable development. - In Honduras, until
27.03.2008, budget: € 792,000. - In Nicaragua, until 25.03.2008,
budget: € 2,464,750 - In Rwanda, until 31.03.2008, budget: € 2,000,000
- In El Salvador, until 25.03.2008, budget: € 1,940,000
Small
Initiative by Local Innovative NGOs (SMILING): To strengthen the
institutional capacity of small, medium and local NGOs most concerned with
the situation of the extreme poor and supporting small scale initiatives
designed to reduce vulnerability. - In Bangladesh, forecast, budget: €
2,000,000.
European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights: To
assist civil society to develop greater cohesion in working on human
rights, political pluralism and democratic political participation and
representation. - In Bosnia and Herzegovina, until 01.04.2008, budget:
€ 1.195.000. - In Vietnam, Forecast, Budget € 300,000
European
Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights: To build the capacity of
organizations promoting and protecting civil and political rights and
promote, protect and apply economic, social and cultural rights defending
human rights. - For all developing countries, until 04.03.2008, budget
€ 8,000,000
Euro-Med Jeunesse III: To enhance participation of
youth NGOs in civil society and to contribute to youth policies. - In
Israel, until 20.02.2008, budget: € 340,000. - In Syria, until
16.03.2008, budget: € 125,000.
Sharaka Yemen: To support government
and NGO partnerships for the promotion and protection of Human Rights in
Yemen with a special focus on women. - In Yemen, until 01.03.2008,
budget: € 1,050,000.
Health Programme: To recruit 27 teams aiming
at enforcing the health system strengthening strategy. - In DR Congo,
until 28.04.2008, budget: € 900,000.
Support to Decentralization
Programme: To improve the capacity of local governments for effective
service delivery by empowering local populations to demand better services
and strengthening communication mechanisms and downward
accountability. - In Uganda: until 25.03.2008, budget: €
1,000,000.

EU News: EC says that health is priority in the
dialogue with partner countries
24 January In the Standing Committee on Social
Affairs and the Environment of the Joint ACP-EU Parliamentary Assembly
(JPA), the European Commission (EC) said that health is a priority in its
dialogue with ACP countries. The draft follow up of the EC to the
resolution of the Joint ACP-EU Parliamentary Assembly on “access to
healthcare and medicines, with a particular focus on neglected diseases”,
mentions that ACP countries performing well on the Abuja targets will be
receiving an incentive bonus. This draft will further be discussed during
the next JPA that will take place 15-20 March. Please find the

EU News: DSW co-organises European HIV/AIDS Funders
Group conference
24/25 January DSW co-organised this years' annual
conference of the European HIV/AIDS Funders Group, a knowledge-based
network dedicated to strengthening European philanthropy in the field of
HIV/AIDS. 40 high-level participants from European foundations, bi- and
multilateral donors joined the meeting in London and debated the
strengthening of health systems, new methods and innovative financing
mechanisms in the fight against AIDS. Speakers included Dr Jörg F. Maas,
Executive Director of DSW, Dr Astrid Bonfield, Chief Executive of the
Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, Wolfgang Bichmann, Vice President
of the German Development Bank KfW, and Louis-Charles Viossat, the French

voted on the report on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in

Upcoming Events: Presenting new findings in HIV/AIDS
research: From evidence to policy – HIV results from the field
13 February HIV and AIDS pose a grave threat to
individuals, communities, and economies worldwide. This is especially true
in developing countries, where more than 90 percent of all HIV infections
have occurred. Stop AIDS Alliance and the European Parliamentary Forum on
Population and Development (EPF) are delighted to present the Horizons’
research findings on HIV/AIDS. The meeting, kindly hosted by Anne Van
Lancker, MEP brings together policy makers, experts and advocates to
discuss.
