EU News: Amendments opposing SRHR rejected in vote
on Gender Equality report
13 March
The European Parliament approved in
plenary a report entitled: Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in
Development, drafted by German Socialist MEP Uca. All amendments rejecting
SRHR were voted down. Unfortunately, an amendment mentioning the female
condom, put forward by MEP Buitenweg was also rejected. Even though the
debate and the amendments showed strong opposition to SRHR of a few MEPs,
the outcome of today’s vote is an official European Parliament resolution
which is extremely strong on SRHR. Please find the amendments here: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sce/server/internet/amend_motions_texts/sce_amend_motions_texts_main_02.jsp?ref=A6-0035/2008
