Calls for Proposals
The calls on the following European Commission budget lines are usually open for organizations and projects interested in SRHR. For further details on any of these calls or corrigenda see the EuropeAid website.
Programme to Support Women, Young People and Vulnerable Populations promotes participatory processes for sustainable development in order to reach socio-economic, cultural and political conditions that make peace possible.
- Colombia: until 31.07.20, budget: 5,000,000.
CARDS Regional Support Programme to the Roma and Marginalizes Groups in the Western Balkans aims to ensure social inclusion of the Roma and marginalised groups in the Western Balkans (including access to health services).
- Western Balkans: until 15.06.2007, budget: 1,000,000.
Call for proposals for interventions such as conferences, workshops, seminars and resulting publications to facilitate policy dialogue and social debate among Non-State Actors and between Non-State Actors and Government (including heath topics).
- South Africa, until 14.05.2007, budget: 700,000.

General Affairs & External Relations Council Conclusions on HIV/AIDS

The General Affairs & External Relations Council (GAERC) agreed on conclusions on 'recently emerging issues regarding HIV/AIDS’, including sexual and reproductive health and rights. Focusing on the feminization of the epidemic, the GAERC conclusions state: "The Council recognises women's right to have control over, and decide freely and responsibly on, matters related to their sexuality in order to increase their ability to protect themselves from HIV
infection and calls on the Commission and the Member States to take all necessary measures to promote and support an enabling environment for the empowerment of women.” Final text can be downloaded here.
European Parliament Report on HIV/AIDS in the EU & Neighbourhood

The European Parliament (EP) adopted a report on HIV/AIDS in the EU and neighbouring countries. The Parliament stressed that information and prevention campaigns, notably measures to promote the use of female condoms, should be launched. It also seeks a reduction in treatment costs. During the debate, several MEPs welcomed the commitment of the German EU Presidency. Health ministers are expected to adopt HIV/AIDS conclusions formally on 30/31 May. EP report can be accessed here.
EU Budget 2008 – What and when?

The European Commission (EC) proposed the preliminary draft budget, which is the first step in a lengthy procedure to find agreement on EC spending in 2008. Spending for development cooperation is said to increase by 1.9% up to EUR 2.2 billion. Find the exact timeline of the budget discussions and additional information here.
EP Discusses MDG report
Rapporteur MEP Glennys Kinnock presented her draft report on the MDGs in the Development Committee of the European Parliament. The draft report “urges the EU to continue to be at the vanguard of efforts to support sexual and reproductive health rights by maintaining levels of funding, including family planning, treatment of STDs and safe abortion services” and also mentions that “Saving women's lives means ensuring that they have universal to access to sexual reproductive health care and family planning as well as pre and post-natal care.” Deadline for amendments for this report is 14 May.
