Calls for Proposals
The Calls on the following European Commission budget lines are usually open for organisations and projects interested in SRHR. For further details on any of these Calls or corrigenda see the EuropeAid website.
EIDHR projects aim at maximizing the effectiveness, impact and visibility of actions supporting the protection and promotion of human rights and democratisation in:
Vietnam, until 12.04.2007, Budget: € 150,000.
Food Security Programme 2006 aims for improved food security to lower households' vulnerability (a focus on HIV/AIDS is explicitly requested).
Zimbabwe, until 28.02.2007, Budget: 14,550,000.
Strengthening Democracy programme aims to strengthen the advocacy role of NGOs in supporting democracy, the rule of law, protecting basic human rights etc.
Romania: until 09.03.2007, Budget € 920,000.

EU News
Establishment New Party in the EP
9 January 2007
A new political group in the European Parliament (EP), named "Identity, Tradition and Sovereignty", has been established with 20 members of the EP from seven different nationalities. The group's common political charter includes promotion of Christian values, heritage, culture and the traditional family as a natural societal link, among other issues. 7th European Research Framework Programme (FP7)
15 January 2007
In line with the launch event of the FP7 under the German presidency in Bonn, Germany, DSW together with 24 other stakeholders of the development cooperation arena called for sufficient funding on the poverty diseases HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB and other neglected diseases. A special call for proposals for microbicides research is not expected for 2007. Stakeholders have highlighted concerns about the feminization of AIDS and female HIV prevention needs. EP Hearing on Obstetric Fistula
6 February 2007
Together with partners UNFPA, MSI and EPF, DSW has helped the European Parliament Working Group on Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS and Development organise a hearing, "Obstetric Fistula: Ending the Silent Suffering," with medical expert, personal experience and global outlook presentations, as well as presentations by MEP Anne Van Lancker, MEP Veronique Mathieu and the European Commission's Lena Sund. USA: Global Gag Rule Rescinded |
|
Today, US-American president Barack Obama rescinded "The Mexico City Policy", also known as the “Global Gag Rule”. First imposed by the Reagan Administration in 1984, this policy directed the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to withhold funds from foreign NGOs that provide abortion information or counselling to women or lobbied foreign governments to legalise or make abortion available.
