EU News: African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Ambassadors Recommend SRH

On 27 September, “The Brussels Declaration on Health for the Sustainable Development in ACP Countries”, drafted by the sustainable development committee of ACP ambassadors, was under review. DSW, together with partners, provided input for this Declaration and subsequently congratulated the ambassadors on the Declaration, which includes an excellent set of recommendations on health. The Declaration emphasises the importance of ACP cooperation between governments in the fight against HIV/AIDS and malaria and the fact that access to information on maternal health is an important element in the fight against HIV/AIDS, unwanted pregnancies and child mortality. The Declaration is scheduled for adoption at the ACP Health Ministers meeting on 24-25 October in Brussels. Please find the website of the ACP ambassadors here.

EU News: EC-UNFPA RHYIA Final Review Gives Glimpse at Plans for 2008 Action

On 28 September, the European Commission and UNFPA invited European and Asian partners, stakeholders and civil society to the final review meeting of their joint Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in Asia (RHIYA), for which DSW provided communications and technical support for many years. RHIYA was the second phase of a €44m EC-UNFPA partnership project that ran from 1998 to 2007 and spanned 7 Asian countries. The conference focused on the major achievements, lessons learned, best practices, scaling up and the way forward for SRH in Asia.
