Calls for Proposals

The Calls on the following budget lines are usually open for organizations and projects interested in SRHR. For further details on any of these Calls or corrigenda see the EuropeAid website.

- Promoting human rights in Sri Lanka and strengthening the capacity of civil society organisations to implement such activities. In Sri Lanka, until 15.10.2007, budget € 2,575,000.

- Supporting institutions which constitute a counterpart to the central authority of the State and promoting initiatives which originate at local level. In Kazakhstan, until 12.10.2007, budget € 1.6 million.

- The Euro-Med Youth III Program: Enhancing the contribution of non-governmental youth organizations to civil society and democracy and contributing to the development of youth policy. In Lebanon, until 01.11.2007, budget € 275,000.
In Gaza and the West Bank, until 01.02.2008, budget € 280,000.

- Urban Social Inclusion Project: Setting up Social Inclusion Offices providing services to vulnerable families. In Brazil, until 8.11.2007, budget € 3,603,600.

- Women and youths project: Creating income and employment for youth and women. In Belize, until 03.12.2007, budget € 300,000.

- Supporting civil society actions in the fields of good governance, poverty reduction, NGO capacity building and information and communication. In Mali, until 17.09.2007, budget FCFA 300,000,000

- Improve non state actors’ participation in public dialogue. In Senegal, until 19.09.2007, budget FCFA 2,295,849,500.

- Capacity building of local actors in analysis, planning and participatory methods and the implementation of these strategies, in Chad, until 02.10.2007, budget FCFA 1,500,000,000.

- Higher Education HIV/AIDS Programme (HEAIDS): Supporting actions at institutional level that strengthen, enhance and develop, new and existing institutional programmes, service provision and initiatives/interventions with respect to HIV/AIDS, in Republic of South Africa, until 5.10.2007, budget € 767,293.

EU News: EP Development Committee wants more development funding for health

10 September
The European Parliament Development Committee (DEVE) voted in favour of an amendment proposed by German MEP Walter to increase funding for health in developing countries by almost € 9 Million. MEP Schmidt’s amendment on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (see nEUws 90) was withdrawn but he will table a specific paragraph on the same topic when DEVE votes on the Resolution on the budget (October 3). EU News: Ambassadors from African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries discuss SRH

17 September
Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights was an important topic on the agenda of the members of the sustainable development subcommittee of the committee of ACP ambassadors to the European Union. DSW, together with UNFPA, MSI and the StopAIDS Alliance, prepared recommendations on SRH to be adopted first by that committee and later by the ACP Health Ministers at their meeting on 24-25 October. EU News: Michael Alfons joins DSW in Brussels as EU Project Officer

Austrian Michael Alfons has joined the DSW Brussels team in the position of EU Project Officer. Michael has experience in external relations, media and communications, and has worked in the European Commission (DG Joint Research Centre), OSCE, and CARE Austria. Michael studied journalism and communications and completed his postgraduate studies at the College of Europe in Warsaw.
