Calls for Proposals
The Calls on the following European Commission budget lines are usually open for organizations and projects interested in SRHR. For further details on any of these Calls or corrigenda see the EuropeAid website.
EIDHR projects These Calls aim at maximizing the effectiveness, impact and visibility of actions undertaken in support of the protection and promotion of human rights and democratization in: - Bosnia and Herzegovina, until 04.04.2007, Budget: € 615,000 - Brazil, forecast, Budget: € 300,000 - Israel, until 22.02.2007; Budget: € 615,000 - Peru, forecast, Budget: € 380,000
Phare: This programme supports accession countries in times of massive economic and political changes. - Bulgaria: Provision of community based medical, social and educational services for children; until 20.02.2007; Budget: € 6,670,000
CARDS: This programme provides assistance for Reconstruction, Development and stabilization to the Western Balkans. - Bosnia and Herzegovina: to contribute to the socio-economic rights of minority returnees, in particular the right to work, to access health and social protection, to pension and education; until: 04.01.2007; Budget € 1,000,000.
EDF – Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme: to improve coping mechanisms and self-reliance of Internally Displaced Persons and support their voluntary return
until: 02.03.2007; Budget: € 5,000,000.

Council of Europe campaign on violence against women 27 November 2006 The Council of Europe launched a campaign called "stop domestic violence," calling for domestic violence to be criminalised, victims to be protected and perpetrators to be punished across Europe. Up to one quarter of all women in Europe have experienced physical violence at least once during their lives, while more than one tenth has suffered sexual violence. EP Budget Committee Votes on Investing in People

The Budget Committee of the European Parliament voted on the division of funds within the thematic program “Investing In People,” part of the Development Cooperation Instrument, as follows in million €: Health - 62, Education - 22, Other aspects - 19.8, Gender - 6.6. World Aids Day – EU Statement 1 December 2006 The Finnish Presidency's statement “Making Further Progress” was delivered by Ms Paula Lehtomäki, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of Finland, at an International World AIDS Day Seminar in Helsinki. The Finnish HIV network, in collaboration with the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, organized a seminar on “How to Keep the Promise - HIV and Young Women” in Helsinki. EuroNGOs Capacity-Building Workshops Early 2007 EuroNGO's capacity-building workshop series will resume in early 2007 with a workshop on communicating SRHR in the European context. USA: Global Gag Rule Rescinded |
|
Today, US-American president Barack Obama rescinded "The Mexico City Policy", also known as the “Global Gag Rule”. First imposed by the Reagan Administration in 1984, this policy directed the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to withhold funds from foreign NGOs that provide abortion information or counselling to women or lobbied foreign governments to legalise or make abortion available.
