Programme of Community Action in the field of Public Health 19 May 2006 – deadline The EC has launched the Call for Proposals 2006 to implement the priority actions defined in the Work Plan 2006 of the Public Health programme (2003 – 2008) and is now inviting public authorities, civil society organisations and health experts to put forward public health projects for EU co-funding. The call is open to participants from all 25 Member States, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Information on the Call can be viewed here.

Commission adopts 2006 Public Health Work Plan 14 February 2006 On the 10th of February, the Commission adopted the 2006 Work Plan for the programme of Community action in the field of public health (2003-2008). New Priorities for 2006 include health information on gender specific health and the focus on HIV/AIDS as a health determinant. Therefore, the Public Health Programme will give special attention to preparing reports on gender specific health problems as well as on sexual and reproductive health.
22 February 2006 DSW attended the Commission's Information Day on the Work Plan 2006. The general presentation of the Public Health Programme was followed by thematic workshops on financial & administrative aspects concerning the three focus areas health information, health threats and health determinants.
EP Development Committee Report on Aid Effectiveness and Corruption 27 February 2006 The EP Development Committee has issued a report on aid effectiveness and corruption in developing countries (2005/2141(INI)). Weblink.
EP Foreign Affairs Committee discusses DCECI 22 February 2006 The EP Foreign Affairs Committee discussed an opinion drafted by MEP Belahorska regarding the Development Cooperation and Economic Cooperation Instrument proposed by the European Commission and Council that will govern development cooperation finance during 2007-2013. This opinion appears to contradict the Development Committee's views in a number of important respects, including disagreeing that development and economic cooperation must be separated. EP Working Group on RH, HIV/AIDS and Development 22 February 2006 The EP Working Group on Reproductive Health, HIV/ AIDS and Development invited speakers Lena Sund (DG Development) and Florent Sebban (Eurostep) to provide an overview about the current funding situation for European Commission projects in the field of sexual and reproductive health. EP, Commission and Council to discuss new budgetary framework for 2007-2013 21 March 2006 On 21 February, representatives of the European Parliament, Council and Commission continue to work on reaching agreement on the Inter-Institutional Agreement and new budgetary framework governing 2007-2013 in April. A further "trilogue" meeting is scheduled for 21 March. International Conference “What about Sex?” 6th/ 7th March 2006 This conference is organized by the World Population Foundation (WPF) and Rutgers Nisso Groep will deal with Sex, Sexual Health and how to incorporate this in policies and programmes. The conference is meant for policymakers, field staff, NGO-representatives and youth organisations who have to deal with sexuality issues in their work. See more here.
International Women's Day – Roadmap for gender equality 08 March 2006 The Roadmap will outline six priority areas for EU action on gender equality for the period 2006-2010: equal economic independence for women and men; reconciliation of private and professional life; equal representation in decision making; eradication of all forms of gender-based violence; elimination of gender stereotypes; promotion of gender equality in external and development policies.
