European Parliament 01 – 02 February Continuing the plenary session debate in Strasbourg (see section EU News), the European Parliament will meet in Brussels on the 1-2 February to discuss Combat of Violence against Women and the Equality of Men and Women in the EU, among other subjects.
Hearing on SRHR 09 February The Polish Delegation in the Socialist Group in the European Parliament & ASTRA – Central and Eastern European Women's Network for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights – have scheduled a Hearing on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in Europe on the 9th of February from 9:30 – 12.30 in the European Parliament, room PHS 4B001.
Public Health Information Day 2006 22 February The Commission is about to adopt the 2006 Work Plan for the implementation of the Public Health Program 2003-2008 that will determine the content of its upcoming Call for Proposals. Commission Approves External Cooperation Thematic Programmes 25 January 2006 Seven newly approved thematic programmes, which regroup the current 15 thematic programmes, have been approved by the European Commission to form the backbone of its external cooperation activities from 2007 onwards. The “Investing in People” thematic programme is the primary theme addressing SRHR.
EP Development Committee Stands Firm on Financial Perspectives 25 January 2006 The European Parliament Development Committee discussed negotiations with the other EU Institutions on the Development Cooperation and Economic Cooperation Instrument (DCECI) that will shape EC poverty reduction funding under the Financial Perspectives for 2007-2013. While acknowledging that some existing budget lines may be "unnecessary," Committee Members affirmed their resolve that: (1) policy is a matter for EP and Council, not the Commission; and (2) there should be two separate instruments for development cooperation and economic cooperation with industrialized countires.
