MEPs get set for EU budget endgame 11 January 2006 Budget committee MEPs gave firm backing to a resolution rejecting the EU 2007-2013 budget deal last Wednesday. The move suggests the text will get through with a large majority in plenary, setting the scene for the final round of a spending fight that began last June. Austrian and Finnish EU Delegations identify key issues for the work of the Council in 2006 22 December 2005 The incoming Austrian and Finnish Presidencies submitted their Operational Programme of the Council for 2006. The Future Financial Perspective 2007-2013 has not yet been agreed, but discussions will follow up early this year. High priority will be given to Human Trafficking based on the plan developed and adopted by the Council and the Commission in 2005 in accordance with the Hague Programme; to mainstream human rights into the EU's external policy; to Gender Equality and Health. The Presidencies will work on the European Youth Policy, their objectives and measures based on the Commission Communication on European policies concerning youth presented in June 2005. As agreed in the European Council in December 2005, the Council will take forward the actions included in the Commission's communication on the "Global approach to migration: Priority actions focusing on Africa and the Mediterranean". Commission presents HIV/AIDS Blueprint for 2006-2009 15 December 2005 The European Commission adopted a Communication on “a coordinated and integrated approach combating HIV/AIDS within the European Union and in the neighbouring countries, 2006-2009”. Linkage between HIV/AIDS & Food Security 08 December 2005 DSW attended a meeting where Dan Mullins, CARE International Deputy Regional Director, Southern and West Africa, highlighted the fact that EU policy does not sufficiently link HIV/AIDS with other areas of development work, especially food and income security.
